New Home for QOV Kansas~
Just a reminder to everyone that we are no longer meeting at Scholfield Honda. We have moved to Tyler Road Baptist Church in west Wichita. We are still meeting the 2nd Saturday of the month from 10 am till 4 pm. The church is located at 571 S. Tyler Road, just one block north of Kellogg. Come around to the back side of the building and park by the playground. You should see a door with a big yellow "QOV Entrance" sign.

Retreat 2011!!!
Registration for the 2011 QOV Kansas Retreat is now open! I hope you are as excited as I am about that! The American Legion in Stafford is hosting a fabulous fundrasier party/dinner for us at retreat this year! They will be roasting a hog and have live music and dancing lined up.  All the details can be found at the "Annual Retreat" link to the left. At the bottom of the info blurb is a link to the registration form. We also have a new QOV Kansas T-shirt for those who attend! So get signed up soon!

Donations~
As those of you who attend regularly can attest, we go through quite a bit of fabric as we crank out a dozen or more quilts a month in our Bee. That means that we are constantly having to buy more fabric. In order to continue buying fabric, we are going to need additional donations. I would like to encourage everyone to speak to your co-workers and any civic organizations you are a member of and talk to them about the chance to sponser a quilt for a wounded warrior. If you need any brochures or fliers, please see Martha or Katy to pick those up. If you need someone from the Board of Directors to come talk to your group about this, we will be happy to give them a short speech all about QOV and the benefits our wounded warriors get from their QOV.

A Note from the Committee~

We truly appreciate everything you do and contribute for the benefit of our Wounded Warriors. Your efforts are invaluable in helping us to achieve our goal of covering every wounded service member with a Quilt of Valor.  Here are some things to keep in mind when you choose fabrics:
  • Always pick 100% cotton fabrics. Cotton endures better in the long run and is essential for our heirloom quality quilts.
  • Quilt tops can be completed in any color combination. Most recipients prefer our national colors of red, white & blue. (The fabrics do not have to be of a patriotic print – just red, white, and blue combinations.) Tone on tone fabrics are always good.
  • Please don’t use cute or kids fabrics. Our quilts are to honor our national heroes: i.e. heirloom quality.
  • Backing should not be strips of whatever is left over. If you want to make a pieced back to go along with the pieced top, that is acceptable.
Now for some bad news:
With the thousands of wounded service members, we clearly want to spend our time, effort, and energy completing the quilts we get in. So, please do a quality control check of your completed piece. Recently our Bee members have had to re-work many quilt tops due to unmatched seams, unevenly pieced tops, gaps where seams should have been sewn, and other glaring errors. We have had to add additional fabric as borders to make the quilt fit our minimum size. We all make mistakes, but we don’t have the time to correct your mistakes.
Quilts of Valor are not charity quilts! We can no longer accept quilts that are not deemed heirloom quality or mixed cotton and poly-cotton blend fabrics. When tops come in which are definitely not heirloom, they are set aside. Sometimes those tops are used to make “transport blankets” – for the wounded in transport planes taking them to a hospital. We really want the best for our nation’s heroes.
Remember this standard is set by QOV-national. We are following their guidelines.
In addition to the above – we don’t want your leftover scraps of fabric. If you are donating fabric, please give us 1 to 4 yard cuts; we have too many fat quarters. Or better yet, if you don’t know what type of fabric works, give us a gift certificate and we will choose fabrics that go well with what we already have.
Thank you.

Fabric Needs:
What we mainly need is this: NO MORE FAT QUARTERS OR SCRAPS!  We have fat quarters and scraps coming out of our ears! What we really need is yardage.  Especially reds, and most especially some more vibrant reds. What we have on hand is mostly the darker country tones.  We can get a binding for a quilt out of 3/4 yd cut. We can get a pillowcase out of a yard.  We can make borders out of a 2 yd cut.  And we can get a backing out of a 4 yd cut. If you have a coupon, get a 6 yd cut and we can get the backing, binding, and pillowcase out of matching fabric!

Prayer Requests:
1.  Katy's cousin, SSgt Steven Eakins, was in a severe auto accident on October 20th 2009. He is still in a coma. Steven has a daughter who is 4, and a 1year old son whom was born weeks after his accident. Please keep Steven and his family in your prayers as he receives treatment at the Tampa, FL VA Hospital.

2. Praise! Martha's son, Sean, a Sgt in the Marine Corp, is HOME FROM Afghanistan. This was his 2nd deployment. We are so thankful he is home safely!

3. Please continue to remember Marvelyn in your prayers as she battles cancer.

If you have a prayer concern you would like to share with the group, please e-mail me to have your prayer request listed.

Hosted by Hofftek Inc of Wichita, Kansas.
