Frequently Asked Questions:
1: What Size Do I Make My QOV?
The minimum size is 50" x 60". The maximum size is twin.
That being said, we generally shoot for more of a 60" x 72" size. Most
of the guys who receive the quilts are tall, and they like to cuddle up
in them.
2: Where do the finished QOVs go?
In the Kansas Bee, we send the vast majority of our quilts to Ft.
Riley, KS. We recently added the VAMC here in Wichita to our list of
recipients. So unless your quilt is branch specific for non-Army, it
stays here in Kansas. Otherwise, we send them to one of the major
military hospitals to get to the right branch of service.
3: Who gets the QOVs?
Right now we are concentrating on OEF/OIF vets. Maybe once we get all
of them covered, we can go back and start covering our other
Veterans.
The quilts are awarded to those who have recieved a Purple Heart, and
those who have no physical wounds, but are being treated for PTSD.
4: I have a loved one who was injured but
never got a quilt. How do I get them one?
If you fall in this catagory then we need to hear from you! We are
finding that many of our boys are missing out on QOVs because they are
not seen at
the major military hospitals. If you would like to request a quilt for
your
loved one, please e-mail
me!
5: Do I have to make my QOV red, white & blue?
No. Not at all. Chances are, if it appeals to you, it's going to appeal
to someone else too. We've made some pretty wild, bright QOVs in my group.
But the red, white & blue ones do seem to be the preffered quilts when the
recipients are given a choice of quilts. Also keep in mind that there are
very few women who are wounded. So don't make your quilts "girly."
