| First
and foremost I want to make clear that a
Quilt of Valor is not a
"Charity Quilt." A Quilt of Valor is an heirloom quilt
that the wounded
service member can pass down, along with his story to future
generations in his family.
The
materials that go into a QOV should be high quality material that is
not stiff or scratchy. The idea behind the QOV is giving someone who
has been through a traumatic experience a "woobie" to cuddle up in and
escape the memories. It is a source of comfort.
“I
never said thank you for the quilt. I got it in Germany and find myself
attached to it like a 1 yr old woobie. I am a Scout Sniper in the
Marine Corps so I am not a touchy feely guy, but the blanket is a
wonderful gift. Thank you for your compassion.”
SIZE
REQUIREMENTS
The minimum size for a QOV is 50" by 60"
The maximum size for a QOV is
72" by 96"
BACKING
& BINDING REQUIREMENTS
Please provide matching binding with your quilt top. If you are able to
provide matching backing as well, it makes our jobs a lot easier, and
preserves our extremely small budget! The backing should be a surplus
of 4" on all four sides of the top.
PILLOWCASES
If you have extra material from piecing your top,
please make a matching pillowcase. Each of our QOVs is shipped in a
pillowcase to give the hospital bed a nice touch with the quilt. And
the pillowcases can later be used for storing the QOV. *Pillowcases are standard/twin
size.
If
you ever have any questions about making your QOV top, please feel free
to contact us so we can help make sure the top you provide is the very
best it can be!
After all, we feel our heroes deserve our
very best efforts.
